György Piller was the 1935 world champion and the 1936 Olympic individual Gold Medalist in men's saber. He was the coach of the 1956 Hungarian men's saber Olympic Team. After the Melbourne Olympics, he came to San Francisco and coached at the Pannonia Athletic Club until his death in 1963. Under Maestro Piller's tutelage, Pannoia produced a senior World Championship semi-finalist (Gerard Biagini, 1958), a US individual men's saber champion (Thomas Orley, 1961) and, a US men's saber team championship (1962).
